The Therapeutic Benefits of Prostate MassageThe prostate gland is found only in the male body. It is a major component of the male reproductive organs. About the size of a large walnut, the prostate gland can be found right underneath the bladder at the base of the penis. It is the primary function of the prostate gland to produce seminal fluid. Prostate cancer may develop on the glandular tissue of the prostate. The exact cause of prostate cancer, or adenocarcinoma, is still a mystery to medical science. However, it is known that it mainly affects men aged in their fifties and older. The average age at diagnosis is 70 years old. Prostate cancer has also been found to affect more males of African descent than Caucasians or Hispanics. It affects less males of Asian, Native American, or Aboriginal ethnicity. Having a family member with prostate cancer doubles your risk of getting the disease. Some studies have suggested that a diet that is high in fat is a possible contributing risk factor. Men who are at a high risk of developing prostate cancer can ask their doctors to screen them on a regular basis for the disease. The prostate gland can also be affected by prostatitis, or inflammation of the glandular tissue of the prostate caused by infection or disease. One possible treatment for chronic prostatitis is prostate massage. This refers to the act of stimulating the prostate gland by hand or implement. It is a method that is not recommended for cases of acute prostatitis, where a massage can cause the infection to spread to other areas of the body. To do prostate massage by yourself, you need to put on a latex glove, insert your middle finger into the anus, and feel upwards in the direction of your navel, until your finger is touching the prostate gland. Once it is in your reach, gently massage the prostate gland by rubbing back and forth against either side of it, taking care not to rub too hard on its sensitive central area. The prostate massage can incite an ejaculation of seminal fluid, and also bring about sexual stimulation, or orgasm. Prostate massage is performed not only as a treatment, but is thought to act as an aid in the prevention of prostate cancer, although the medical benefits of it have yet to be proven or documented. However, there are also some risks involved, and prostate massage is not recommended in cases where there is a disease of the prostate or an acute inflammation of the glandular tissues.
